How CrossFit changed my life

Joining CrossFit Ireland 3 months ago was a real Eureka moment for me. I’m 37 years old and It only seems strange now, that before discovering CrossFit, I’d spent most of my time exercising at gyms, in a room full of strangers with only myself to motivate me, what a lonely place!

From my very first CrossFit class I discovered an environment which is full of encouragement, motivation, support, constantly varied routines, new technical skills, sound advice and great fun.

From being an overweight husband/dad who had little get up and go, I’ve lost weight, toned up, improved my fitness, made new friends and have much more energy. But it’s outside of the gym, where the real changes in my life have taken place and this is something that Colm and the guys emphasise and encourage you to take away with you after each and every session – I’m eating healthily, sleeping better, have a new and very real positive outlook and do you know, life just seems easier and more enjoyable. The words “Again, again dad” no longer hold any fear. Now I tire my kids out, not the other way around!

You will get to the point during a class, tired, muscles aching, covered in sweat, panting like a dog, hands calloused from your 20th pull-up, thinking you can’t go on, when you’ll hear the magic “30 seconds left guys” and from somewhere deep down, you’ll find that last ounce of energy, give it everything you’ve got to finish on a high and do you know what, you’ll be having the time of your life. Well, that’s how it is for me now anyway.
